PERIOD 7 - "THE UPRISING!"
Between July 22 and September 12, 1942, the German authorities deported or murdered around 400,000 Jews in the Warsaw ghetto. The Germans then began the operation to destroy the remaining Jews in the Warsaw ghetto on April 19, 1943, the eve of Passover. The renewal of deportations was the signal for an armed uprising within the ghetto. The Uprising lasted for more than a month. The German forces originally estimated that it would only last a few days. In your post cite what you learned that you did not know before watching the film.

I had no idea that such organized uprisings of the Jewish community occurred during WW2. The amount of courage, peristence, and will to live astounded me. I cannot even imagine putting myself in the situations and danger that these Jewish people did. I was also amazed at how many Nazis the Jews killed and how planned out their attacks were. In addition, I was surprised by how long they were able to hide within the Warsaw ghetto without the Nazis discovering their exact location and by how they cleverly smuggled so many weapons into the ghetto.
I was very happy to learn about the Jewish uprisings and the fight they put up against the Nazis and it was something that had never been taught to us before. I am so amazed at the organization and the effectiveness that the Jews executed their attacks with. The men and women were willing to die with dignity fighting for their people and their lives. I think this movie did an incredible job portraying the Jews and their effort fighting back especially in the Warsaw ghetto.
I think emily made a great point that the people had an incredible amount of courage, persistence, and will to live. I was also surprised at how long the Jews stayed in hiding.
It was nice to finally learn that there was resistance to the Germans during the Holocaust, but there was one thing that stood out for me. I really admired the women who took part in the uprising. It was great to see that so many women were eager to get up and fight as much as the men and they weren't neglected. Overall, the extent of this uprising is completely phenomenal.
Megan brings up a good part about how effective the uprising was. This definitely was more effectiveness than you would think. It's to the point that it's unbelievable that these people could do this.
First of all I had never heard about Jewish uprisings or the Jewish people fighting back against the Nazi's. The courage that those Jewish men and women had is incredible. The situations they put themselves into to save theirself and others is absolutely incredible. I also, like Emily Hite, admire the strength of the Jewish women in these uprising, their strength and courage is inspirational.
I found Uprising to be a very inspiring miniseries. Learning about the Jewish resistance showed me that the Jews were not merely victims that went willingly to their deaths during the Holocaust. I find the story of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising to be very powerful. Uprising portrayed the Jews with strength, courage, and determination.
As Emily stated earlier, I too was surprised at how effective and extensive this uprising was. The fact that these people were able to smuggle in weapons and fights of the Nazis for months is incredible to me. What was even more impressive to me was the fact that this uprising was a powerful force against Nazi soldiers, and yet it was lead and carried out by ordinary Jewish people without any military experience.
I thought the movie was really showed what the Jewish people had to do to defeat the Germans. I like how they had a plan and figured out away to get weapons. I agree with Amanda that all Jewish people had courage and strength.
I thought that "Uprising" was one of the most influential and powerful films we have seen all year. I had not previously known about the uprising in the Warsaw ghetto and it was often difficult to see what trials these people had to face. I was very inspiring to see how the Jews banded together to protect their freedom and lives and it was comforting to know that they did find some success in their resistance. I thought this movie did an excellent job of showing the perseverance and bravery of the Jews stuck in the ghetto.
I had no idea about sever the conditions faced by the Jews really were. The movie seemed to fill in some of the sentiments that words just can't.
I agree with Emily's comment about how effective and clever the Jewish people were in their resistance against the Nazis. I was surprised to see how well organized they had become so quickly and their ability to train themselves in order to protect each other was astounding. I also thought it was interesting how they were able to access the world outside the ghetto to try to find safety.
I agree with Emily in that it was very showing of the times with the women fighting alongside the men in this era,
This movie was great becaue it showed me that jewish people did fight back. They didn't give up. And also the women fighting and protecting their lifes and people was great because a women fighting aganst a men it wasent right at that time but they didn't care they did it because it was the right ting to do.
I agree with Emily F on the persistence that the uprising Jews had. I found it astonishing that they would go through all that with no reassurance of weather they would live or not.
I found this movie to be one of the best movies we have watched so far. I though it was a nice change to see the flip side of the war and to see that the Jews did fight back. I also think that it isn’t talked and taught enough about; it really shows the unbelievable character that the Jews had. Over all I thought the movie was extremely informational and captivating.
I thought that the movie Uprising was one of the best videos we've seen so far this year. It did a great job portraying the organized jewish resistance in the Warsaw ghetto. I thought that it also did a very good job showing the way the jews were mistreated when the Nazis first invaded Poland. One thing that surprised me about this movie was how organized and resourceful the jews that were stuck in the ghetto were. They took great risks with even greater payoffs, and never once allowed the Germans to defeat them spiritually.
I never knew that there were such uprising from the jewish community. it was great to finally see the jews stand up to the nazis and hold them off for as long as they did. -William Lariviere
I agree with Amanda in that the courage the jews in the Warsaw ghetto showed was incredible.
I found it really interesting that the Jews were able to sustain an organized uprising against a group like the nazis. I found the people who were in these organized groups to be very brave and courageous. They did whatever it took in order for their people to stay alive and it was really impressive. Some of the sacrifices made were really hard to watch. I agree with emily when she talks about how amazed she was that the Jews were able to plan these attacks and have weapons for them.
Before watching the film, "The Uprising," I had no idea that the Jews fought back agaisnt the Germans. I was very surprised by their bravery and courage. I always thought that the Jews were helpless during the war so I was shocked to see how organized and thought out their attacks were.
I agree with Kelsey and that this is definitely the best film so far this year. I liked seeing the other side of the war and how the Jews fought back. The films we've seen before were always about how the Germans killed the Jews so it was a surprising change.
The main thing that I learned by watching the movie, and that I am surprised such little light has been shed on, is that Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto rebelled against the Nazis. Its inspiring to see that even against overwhelming odds and adversity, honor and the will to live are very strong forces and made the Jews able to fight back, despite being devastated by the Nazis.
I agree with Emily Hite...I was very impressed with the grit, muscle, and bravery of the Jewish Women.
Before watching this film I was completely unaware that the Jews fought back and did so with such success. I found it very impressive that the Jews were able to be so successful that the German army had to shell the ghetto and even with this some still escaped.
Before watching this movie, I always thought that the Jews didn't really fight back; but now I know that they fought back pretty strong. It made me angry seeing the Jewish police fight and go against the other Jews during the conditions they were under. The Jews that fought back were extremely couragous and used ood tactics. I commend them for risking their lives to take a stand in what they believed in. I agree with Emily Hite, I think that the Jewish women gave a very fair fight and didn't back down.
I really liked this movie. It showed me that even though they were oppressed, they kept fighting and stayed strong. I would never be able to do anything like that, but they were fighting for their life and freedom, and won. I didn't know that the movie was based on a true story, since I got sucked into the movie. I agree with Meg when she said that she was surprised with the organization and effectiveness that the fighters had.
The Uprising was a very interesting and eye opening movie. I really enjoyed it because the Jewish people fought back against the Nazi's. They finally stood up for themselves. Even though being heavily outnumbered and heavily out gunned but still were willing to fight for what they believed in.
I agree with a couple of people that made the comment about how not knowing the jews fought back. I am with them in that i really didn't think that the jews fought back until watching this movie.
I really liked the film "The Uprising". It gave me a sense of happiness to know that the Jews really did fight back and defend themselves even in situations that were extremely dangerous. It was interesting to see how the Jews planned out their attacks and how they gathered weapons and supplies. It was also nice to see that there were Germans on the outside of ghettos that supported the Jewish uprisings and faught for what was right. I really liked the film and it was very informative.
I agree with Emily in that it was very suprising to see how long the Jewish rebels were able to stay hidden and underground from the Nazi's. It was also suprising to see how successful the Jews were in smuggling weapons and supplies into the ghetto.
