PERIOD 3 - "THE UPRISING!"

Between July 22 and September 12, 1942, the German authorities deported or murdered around 400,000 Jews in the Warsaw ghetto. The Germans then began the operation to destroy the remaining Jews in the Warsaw ghetto on April 19, 1943, the eve of Passover. The renewal of deportations was the signal for an armed uprising within the ghetto. The Uprising lasted for more than a month. The German forces originally estimated that it would only last a few days. In your post cite what you learned that you did not know before watching the film.

Before watching this film, I did not know that Jews fought back at all. I was shocked by their bravery and ability to get firearms and explosives. Also, I didn’t know that they were able to actually hold off the Germans and kill Nazi soldiers. I think the Jewish fighters were very courageous and determined to try and stop what was happening to all of the Jewish people.

I agree with Natalie’s post and before I thought that the Jews were defenseless as well and unable to try and stop what was happening.

Before watching this film, I didn't know that the Jews fought back against the Nazi's. Whenever I used to think about the Holocaust and the Ghetto's, I had always just assumed that the Jews were completely helpless and didn't even try to do anything. This film did a fantastic job of showing everybody the enormous amounts of courage the Jewish people had.

I never learned about the Jewish people fighting back in the Warsaw ghetto. It was surprising to see the men and woman obtain firearms and explosives under the strict circumstances they were under. I'm happy to now know that the Jews didn't just give in to whatever the Germans comanded. They were treated horribly and they decided to do something to stop it. I agree with Natalie. I though the jews were defenseless because they were closely watched over. I also was never taught about the captured Jews killing German Nazis in order to save themselves.

I was really inspired by this film Because I can not understand how the Jews were so strong and brave to stand up to the nazi forces even though they knew they were a such a huge disadvantage. I really admired how they stuck together and worked really hard to achieve freedom. I was especially surprised at how much woman were a part of this huge Jewish revolt. They were not scared to take guns and rifles to defend themselves and their families. Many woman also made those fiery bottle things and risked their lives as they threw them from the rooftops.

I agree with andy's comment because I also believed that the Jews acted helplessly as they were mistreated by the nazi's this film really changed my perspective.

I learned a lot from the film about what the uprising in the ghetto actually looked like, and how the Jews there were able to get as well armed as they eventually did. The film did a good job of portraying the relative success of the rebels in the face of Nazi arrogance.

After watching "The Uprising" I realized how some of the Jewish people in the ghetto fought back and never gave up. It's inspiring because even though it seemed like they had no more chance in surviving and no more hope, the Resistance fought back, and gave an amazing effort against the German troops. Learning about how the Jews fought back is interesting, and gave me another view on how they approached the problems they had.

I learned a lot from this film about how the jews tried to defend themselves against the nazi soldiers. Before watching this film I had never known that some of the jews had planned a retaliation against the nazis. In most other films and things that we have seen about the holocaust, the jews are seen as defenseless against the Germans. I liked how this film showed how courageous the jewish fighters were in taking down some of the Nazi soldiers.

I agree with Natalie, watching this movie was the first time I have learned about the Jewish people fighting against the Nazis. We always learn about how the Jews were massacred, and how the Nazi's were ruthless against the defenseless Jewish people. But we get to see how some of the Jews fought back and gave it their all.

The movie was inspirational in my opinion, the pianist depicted the Jews as not very responsive to the Nazi's aggression. I was pleased that the Jews in the Warsaw ghetto were able to put up some sort of resistance. It's very good that they were able to survive, so that the world could hear their stories.

Seeing the way the Jews attempted to organize a defense in the movie "Uprising" showed me the Holocaust from a new perspective. We were able to see the gradual intensification of the malicious tactics used in the Warsaw Ghetto. The biggest thing I took from the film was the effect of seeing the attempted uprising. Even though the Jews who fought back were committed with their lives, their attempts to fight for freedom proved completely futile. The German force was far too strong and their fighting only delayed the inevitable. It is an atrocity to see just how impossible the battle was. I agree with pretty much all of my classmates who are saying that they were unaware that the Jews tried to fight back.

I agree with Gabby's comment, especially with her statement about how she didn't know the Jews were able to obtain firearms and explosives. I thought that was extremely courageous.

I agree with Natalie that I always thought of the Jews as defenseless and didn't know that there were people who fought back the way these people did. I am amazed by it.

This movie was so motivating to me because it showed that even if every thing seems to be going wrong, its up to you to fight for your rights and what you believe in. Before the movie i always thought that the Jewish people didn't even fight back, but being human nature and watching the movie, that thought has forever been eliminated.

This movie truly painted a picure of what the jews went threw and how they were treated. This was the first story ive heard of that the jews faught for themselves, and it was truly inspiring.

I agree with Natalie that I never really saw or heard about the jews fighting back forthemselves.

This film was great. It showed the other side to the fight between the nazis and the jewish people. This movie did a great job showing that alot did fight back and didnt allow the germans to take them without a fight. These people had so much courage and triumphed over all odds. I have so much respect for these people and I am glad to see the fight was not lost.

I had not been aware of how cruel the Nazi party was to the Jews as well as how much the Jews fought back against them and to what extent they went to to protect themselves and others like them. I was inspired by their efforts to fight back and support one another and I will take a lot from this film.

I agree with Gabby that it was amazing the amount of damage the Jews accomplished with such little support and weapons. They came together with what little they had and their will power got them through as best it could.
