Between July 22nd and September 12th of 1942, the German authorities deported more than 400,000 Jews who were living in the Warsaw ghetto. The Germans then began the second phase of their operation to remove the remaining Jews from the Warsaw ghetto on April 19, 1943, the eve of Passover. The renewal of deportations was the signal for an armed uprising within the ghetto. The German command originally estimated that it would only take them a few days to put down the resistance. Standing against tanks and seasoned combat troops, the Uprising lasted for more than a month. In your post cite what you learned that you did not know before watching the film.

I thought the film did a very good job of portraying the Jews attack of the Germans and how violently the Germans responded. I thought it gave a very powerful message as to how hard the Jewish people fought back and showed how well they worked together. It also gave very good detail as to how they got their weapons and showed how they traveled through the sewage systems.
I thought the film was an important aspect of the Holocaust that is not shown very often. I was not aware before that the Jews rebelled against the Nazis. I think it was interesting what a large impact the rebellion caused and how the uprising was sucessful in the beginning. The filming of the German attacks on the Jewish ghetto was interesting because they only allowed cameras to capture the destruction of the Jewish people and not the rebellion of them.
After watching the film, I learned that Jews actually fought back from the Nazi's, and did not always just obey what they were told to do. I thought this was absolutley amazing because just like what Veda said, this aspect of the Holocaust is often forgotten about. I thought the way the Jews worked together was unbelievable and the way they were able to take weapons from Nazi's was heroic.
After watching this movie a learned a few new things. I did not know that the Jewish people living in the ghetto had ever tried to rebel against the nazis and that to some extent, they were successful. It was inspiring to see that even when these people had so little and were up against so much, they did not give up. Some of the Jewish rebels who survived later went on to become very successful business owners which I also thought was cool because they did not let the nazis bring them down forever. I enjoyed watching this movie and I think it have a better understanding of how life in the ghetto actually was.
Something that I learned right away from the film was that the Jewish community in the ghetto even fought back. Previously to the movie I had never even known that. Even as we were watching the movie I was curious to how much the Jews actually fought back and it was incredible to see how much work they put into it. I thought the film did a great job of getting the point across that they didn't stop after a couple of them died. They persevered through all of it, which was great to see.

I never actually knew that the Jew fought back against the Germans. It made me very happy to see that they did, and that they really made an impact on the Germans. It is surprising how long they were able to hold off the Germans before evacuating. I loved watching them fight back, and i think that its extremely important that this is talked about because i think the general impression is that the Jews didn't fight back.
When i think about the movie, i thought "WOW" its about time that the Jewish community started kicking ass.Honestly I had no idea that "WARSHAW" even happened, almost as if the Jewish rebellion didn't even happen. I was wicked happy to hear and see what i was seeing only because i think that the Jewish community had the strength to stand up for their moral code. in the movie the main question was "can a moral man uphold his moral code, in an unmoral world? This movie showed me that there is an answer to this question, and i respect all of those who have their own moral agenda. This movie showed me the other side of the community who refuse to be kicked when their down. I enjoyed every second of the movie and i appreciate the fact that Mr.Gallagher showed it to us. But it was sweet victory to see some of the Jewish community get away and live in the woods.
This movie blew me away. I never would have thought that there were people who chose to fight against the Nazis. I thought the Jews would simply just take the violence against them. I know a lot more now. They were all brave just by attempting to take on the Nazis. It's unfortunate how the group could not win and the Warsaw Ghetto was completely flattened. They gave it their best and it's unfortunate how they lost.
When we began watching the film I had no idea what to expect. I was especially shocked to see the Jewish people kick some Nazi ass. I find it a bit odd that this was the first I'd heard of it. In 8th grade I along with my peers visited the Holocaust museum. Obviously the importance if the building is to inform and reveal each and every act of evil. Perhaps it's just me in that I feel the museum should also include a section to remember the Jewish resistance who Were able to avenge their fallen comrades.
I think the subject matter of this film was a seemingly un-sung portion of the holocaust. People usually talk about the damage and the killing, but never respect those who fought back and rebelled. Without the Hollywood film industry I would not have been familiar with the Warsaw Rebellion.
I learned a lot thought this film because I had never seen a movie about the holocost that portrayed the Jews taking a stand and killing ye Germans. Another thing I learned from this film is that the French and the English were supporting the uprising for a small amount of time and they could have done more but they refused. I thought that the moire did a great job of making the views be able to connect with the characters which made the movie very interesting.
I missed two days of the viewing of this film, so there is a lot of information that I did not get to learn. However, this film did open my eyes to the fact that the Jews did fight back during this time, they did not just sit around and wait to be sent away to the death camps. I think that this film opened my eyes to the amount of spirit that the Jews had, and how cunning they really were. Not in terms of the culture or religion as a whole, but at this specific point in time. When genocide occurs I think that a lot of people assume that the group that the act is being perpatrated on is just sitting back and letting it happen because they felt as though they had no other choice, as I thought. However, the Warsaw Uprising made me realize how much the Jews actually fought back, not only through actually fighting back, but by sneaking over the fence to get food and living on the 'Aryan' side to help the Jews on the inside of the ghetto. This film, overall, was very powerful.
As I was going into this movie I didn't know what to expect. Seeing the Jewish people with weapons in their hands still didn't change the way I felt about how they were being treated.
This film was great to watch. The director did a great job with getting every bit of accurate detail in the movie. It might as well be a replay of what actually happened. At first I didn't think the Jews fought back but when they did they struck with vengeance. It was sad to see all the Jews being killed for no good reason but it was better to see them strike with a brute force. Its life changing, knowing that these people fought for their lively hood and succeeded to end it all.
I agree with what Tim had to say. It's a couragious act of bravery and the fact that they had fought knowing that there life was on the line was even more couragious. If it came down to a situation like this I would have no problem fighting for my people. I would glady fight for whats right. The Nazis were strong but at times they were flattened as well.
Although I had already seen this film, it had a much greater impact on me this time around. I never knew the Jews had resisted with such force against the Nazis. Most holocaust stories leave this key fact out. It is very noble and honorable of all the Jews, and was a strong statement that they will not be pushed around without a fight. After viewing this film I felt proud to be a Jew.
I reAlly learned a lot from this movie. It showed the awful things that were happening to the Jews but it also showed me that Jews did fight back. From everything I've learned about the holocaust in my life I never learned about the uprising. They had a lot of courage and bravery at this time.
Although i was only here for one of the three days we watched the film i learn quite a bit about the battles that had taken place within one of the ghettos. my original view of the uprising was a small group of 10 or 15 jews fighting and causing riots in several different ghettos, however i was surprised to learn that it was only one uprising that took place and the 10 to 15 jews were actually a few hundred jews who fought for a long grueling month.
I feel like this movie showed the whole thing wasn't just the Jews being killed and not fighting back and this truly showed that did actually fight which i previously didn't know.
This movie was very insightful, revealing to me that the Jewish community did make a stand. Although it did not prevent all horrible things from happening, the film displayed strides towards freedom creating hope for the culture. I don't think a lot of people know about this community making a stand, it should become more well known.
