Between July 22 and September 12, 1942, the German authorities deported or murdered around 300,000 Jews in the Warsaw ghetto. The Germans began the operation to destroy the remaining Jews in the
Warsaw ghetto on April 19, 1943, the eve of Passover. The renewal of deportations was the signal for an armed uprising within the ghetto. The Uprising lasted for more than a month. Before seeing "Uprising" I never even knew that the Jews attempted a retaliation effort. It surprised me that they were even able to smuggle in weapons when they were highly guarded as they were. It's also a shock to me that the Germans needed more than one day to oppress the efforts of the Jews since they should have been much more organized and they obviously have many more weapons.
Before watching the film "Uprising" I did not know that the Jews in the Warsaw ghetto tried to fight back. I did not know Nazi soldiers that they were able to kill. I was very suprised at the success they had during the uprising. They were able to defend themselves pretty well in the conditions they were placed in.
Before I saw Uprising I knew that there had been a resistance in the Warsaw ghetto. I had been under the impression that it was a large scale attack at once. I hadn't realized that before their final revolt, they had been consistantly attacking buildings and soldiers within the ghetto. To me that was shocking that they were able to have organized attacks for a sustained amount of time without the Nazi uncovering who was behind it all.
I agree with Shady that it was suprising that the Nazis weren't able to supress the revolt within a day. It just goes to show what a person ccan do when their back is against the wall.
Before watching the film “Uprising” I was unaware of the valiant retaliation the Jews organized against the Germans. I knew from being told that the Germans were excellent record keeps and documenters, but I didn’t know the director was right there in the middle of all of it. I was surprised to see how successful the Jews were with smuggling weapons and ammunition, as well as harming the Nazi soldiers and sending a message.
I agree with Shady the fact that the Germans weren’t able to overcome the retaliations right away shows how organized and prepared they were.
Before watching the film "Uprising" I did not realize that the Jews in the Warsaw ghetto fought back against the Nazi party. I was shocked when I watched how the Jews fought the Germans and how long they were able to last since they were forced to smuggle weapons in order to survive.
I agree with Kelsey that the Jews were able to fight very well against the Germans and that they had a lot of success in their plan.
After seeing Uprising, I had no idea that the Jews fought back as much as they did. They were full of aggression and didn't show any fear. They weren't going to back down to the Germans. That is what interested me the most, the fact that they continued to fight back, no matter how much it hurt.
I agree with Shady that it was surprising how they were able to obtain weapons with the German Army wacthing their every move.
After watching "Uprising" I was astonished by the bravery of the rebellious Jews. I feel that the retaliation efforts have always been left out of the text books. It was an interesting fact that the small Jewish resistance lasted longer against the German Army than the entire country of Poland had. This movie demonstrated the alternative option that some Jews told that is rarely discussed.
I agree with Mike that it was surprising how well the resistance operated in the guerilla warfare approach.
Before watching "Uprising" I also knew that there was a fight in the Warsaw Ghetto. I didn't know how long it went on for or how effective the Jewish people were at a fending off the Nazis. Watching this movie made me glad that at least some of the Nazis were killed before they could kill anymore innocent people.
I also agree with Shady. I am surprised how long they were able to keep up the fight against the Nazis. They had such little resources and they still managed to stop the deportation process entirely for a month.
Before watching this film I had no idea the type of resistance that was used in order to fight back against the Nautsies. The Uprising film really allowed me to understand the extent of the jews determintaion to fight off the Nautsies. I enjoyed this film alot and hope to finish it eventually, I began to see the how the jews faught back against these murderers.
Before seeing "Uprising" I had no idea there was any attempt of resistance at all during the holocaust. I thought it was amazing that the resistance lasted as long as it did. That group of Jewish people put up an incredibly inspiring fight. The Nazi's completely underestimated them at first.

Something that hadn't been mentioned yet was how well the Jewish Policeman was treated earlier in the film. It was a bit shocking that he was invited to a party for Germans.
When I watched the film I learned many things about the resistance. I always wondered why they didn’t try everything they could to escape, like hiding fighting back, and sneaking across the wall. This movie taught me that they did attempt these things, and sometimes they where successful.
In the film "Uprising" the Jewish members of the Warsaw fought back and formed a resistance against the Nazi soldiers. I didn't previously know that the Jewish resistance had such success against the German troops. I didn't know also that the Jewish people had such success smuggling supplies into the Ghetto. I was surprised how long they lasted and it was nice to hear a story of resistance as opposed to the sad stories we normally hear.
I was surprised that undercover Jews were still able to smuggle weapons and explosives to the Jews, even under such heavily-guarded conditions. I couldn't believe that the Germans were filming the rebellion (did that actually happen in real life?), as their own men were being killed.
Like Sam, I too was shocked that the Jews held out for such a long time with so little weapons and people. However, these people had nothing else to fight for except their lives and for their loved ones, so I can see why they didn't give up.

Before seeing the video "uprising" I had never known that Jews inside the Warsaw Ghetto, or anywhere, had tried to fight back with weapons. In all of my history classes before we had never been told about such a thing, and it actually surprised me a lot that they did fight back. For a group inside the ghetto to lead a successful, month long armed rebellion against the Nazi army is amazing and was initially hard to believe.
Before see "Uprising" I have never known that the polish Jews were able to organize such a large retaliation operation. I had never heard of seen of an jewish resistance to the Nazis. There resistance was very impressive considering the odds against them, with there lack of resources to fight back.
Like Sam i was surprised that the resistance lasted as long as it did. I thought the Nazi would have easy stopped it with their much strong weapons and army.

before seeing uprising didnt know that the Jews ever really fought back at the germans in these ghettos. I thought it was interesting to find out how the Jews were able to hold off the Nazi's for longer than the Polish army. i also thought it was interesting how there was a film crew documenting all that was going on all the time.
Before i saw the movie "UPRISING!" I never knew that the jews attempted to retaliate, and i found it amazing how succesfull they were given the circumstances that they were in. I thought it was amazing that they smuggled in so much ammunition and supplies, and no one turned on the group.
I also agree with allie and think that with all of the german record keeping, that more people didnt know about the resistance.
I agree with Shady that it was a big shocker for me to see the way that the Jews attempted to fight back the Germans. They smuggled in mostly everything that they needed to survive and they brought in more weapons to combat the Nazis.
