PERIOD 4 - UPRISING!

Between July 22nd and September 12th of 1942, the German authorities deported more than 400,000 Jews who were living in the Warsaw ghetto. The Germans then began the second phase of their operation to remove the remaining Jews from the Warsaw ghetto on April 19, 1943, the eve of Passover. The renewal of deportations was the signal for an armed uprising within the ghetto. The German command originally estimated that it would only take them a few days to put down the resistance. Standing against tanks and seasoned combat troops, the Uprising lasted for more than a month. In your post cite what you learned that you did not know before watching the film.

The film "the uprising" displayed many things about the Jews, their living situation, and Nazi control over them. I thought it was sickening to see the Jews being forced to move into these ghettos and specifically the Warsaw in this case. the death rate was astonishing due to illness, starvation, and the Nazis killing Jews for failure to cooperate or out of pure hatred. It also showed how in some cases the Jews stood up for themselves and fought back against the Nazi's. Although they may not have been the best answer it was good to see the Jews standing up for themselves after being treated very poorly and cruely.

The movie "uprising" showed me that the Jews did try to struggle and fight back, that they didn't just stay put and follow the heard wherever it went. Jews strongly fought for their values, suffered a lot and faced what no 1 had ever did.

The film the "uprising" showed me that many of the Jews took a chance and stood up to the Germans and proved that they are strong to the Nazis. Also it showed me that many Jews wouldn't go down without a fight.

The film "Uprising" showed to me just how much the Jews fought. I knew that they resisted being shipped off to the camps, but I didn't realize how much they resisted and how good of a fight they put up. I also learned how ignorant and cocky the German's were. The Germans thought that theyd be able to march right into the Warsaw ghetto and get all the Jews to surrender, but obviously this was not the case.

The film "Uprising" showed me that not all of the Jews just waited for the Nazis to take them away to the camps peacefully, and instead many fought back. I was surprised how long they were successful for against the Germans, as it even said they lasted longer than the entire Polish country did. I learned that a lot of the Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto were committed to the idea that they would not go down without a fight.

After watching the film "Uprising", I got a more visual outlook on how some of the Jews were living in Warsaw. Even though all the people in the movie were brave for sticking up against the Nazis, it showed how each individual took care of their family and how they overcame their hardships. Even though they all struggled, they all fought back for their freedom and their people.

Uprising, the film answered one of my remaining major questions: did the Jews ever fight back? This film clearly showed that many did fight back and they fought back with courage, bravery and honor. This film allowed me to view the Holocaust with a whole new perspective because for some reason we are never taught or told that the Jews fought back. This film was the most eye-catching and inspirational films we've seen so far in this course.

Before watching this movie, I didn't know anything about the Jewish uprising, to be honest. However, after watching it, I have come to realize that the Jewish people were so much stronger than I thought they were before. I never realized that they were able to obtain that many weapons and explosives, let alone hold off that many German soldiers for that long. Overall, this film revealed how strong-willed and resilient the Jews were, even in the terrible situation they were faced with.

before watching this film, i had no idea how bad the lives of jews living in the ghettos were. this movie showed that the jews, ass helpless as they may have felt, constantly tried to fight back against the germans and that they didn't just let them push them around.

This film showed me a side of the Jewish people during the Holocaust that I had never seen before. I think that we all are used to seeing the Jews as simple victims, living in total fear of and surrender to the Nazi party. This film showed me how they were actually able to fight back, despite how small the resistance might have been. It showed what strategies and techniques they used to fight along with the struggles they faced trying to sustain their uprising. It was refreshing and inspiring to see the Jewish people in this light, showing that they were not just cowards living in fear, but victims willing to fight for their cause.

Until watching “Uprising”, I always had envisioned the Jews giving in to the Nazi’s very easily, and not standing up for themselves. After seeing how much power the Nazi’s had on other people, I assumed that the Jews basically gave up. Instead, the movie showed the Jews efforts and how both men and women tried their best to fight back and be strong against the Nazi’s as much as possible.

Watching this movie made me realized how determined the Jews were to fight back against the Nazis knowing it was their only chance of survival. They stayed strong and didnt back down because they wanted to live. i admire their strength and determination because they did not give up, and instead fought back.

The film brought to my attention that there were Jews who fought back against the Nazis. In many of the other films the Jews seemed to be slightly passive. I understand how it would be hard to stand up against the Nazis but it seemed the percentage of rebellious Jews was far too low for the situation. In that sense this film gave me a peace-of-mind because it felt great to see some of them fighting back for their freedom.

I learned a lot from watching this film. I never new that some Jews actually rebelled against the Germans, I thought that they felt they had no choice and didn't do anything against them out of fear. I was very inspired to see that I was wrong and very impressed with how organized their uprising was.

I think that this movie finally gave us another perspective on what the Jews did and the different side of the fight. I think that it showed us that the Jews did not just sit back and get killed and forced into work camps. THis movie finally showed us that they actually fought back and they were good at it. They did not drop their guard and continued to fight for their freedom until they were able to escape the Nazis.

From watching this movie i learned that there was actually a lot of Jews that were trying to fight for there freedom. I didn't know that the Polls didnt want to help the Jews out and that they held off the Germans for days. The Germans were way to confident about taking out the Jewish resistance and it cost them many casulties. It was really informative to watch a movie where Jews stood up for themselves because I was under the immpression that they all just went along with everything the Nazi's did

I learned a lot from this film. I did not know that there were uprisings in the ghettos. This was very brave of the Jews becuase they were fighting against a much larger army with tanks. It is unbelievable that the uprising took longer than the entire war in Poland. I also learned that Jews attempted to sneak into the German side of the city in order to get food or transport things to other people. Although this was extremely risky, the rewards were very good. Finally, I learned that many Jews did not support uprisings becuase they believed that their future would be even worse if they were caught. This movie showed me things that I was not previously aware of.

In the film Uprising, I learned very much about the resistance against the Nazi rule. From all of the tragedy that we learn about during WWII, very little is discussed concerning any sort of anti-Nazi resistance, and it was reassuring to hear that there was at least one group of people willing to advocate for the subjugated minorities in Germany and Poland. It is, however, unfortunate that this group's uprising lasted only a little over a month as the Nazi party continued to evict people of the jewish faith from their honest homes to the ghettos of Warsaw.
