"What Facing History Meant To Me."

For their last assignment of the semester, the students of Facing History and Ourselves were to create a blog.   On their blog, the students were to post an Introduction, that described the course, for those not familiar with Facing History and Ourselves, and the reasons they chose this senior elective.  I must say, the introductions alone are worth taking the time to read each and every student's blog.  The students are honest, candid, and incredibly insightful as to their motivation in selecting the course.  Then they were to post a Reflective Essay.  The title of their essay was “What Facing History and Ourselves meant to me.” The essay was to be at least 1000 words and not to exceed 1500 words in length.   You should know that you are reading the student's first draft.  I've asked these seniors, about to graduate from high school, to revisit their blogs at a later time to do a final edit of their essays.  Needless to say, a blog is a very public forum.  The students know that others will be reading what they wrote.  It is my greatest hope that the students will come back to their blogs in the years that follow to remind themselves of the lessons they learned in Facing History and Ourselves.
Mr. Gallagher
