PERIOD 7 - THE LONGEST HATRED
You recently viewed the PBS documentary The Longest Hatred in class. Please share what you learned from the film and make at least one comment on another student's post.

In my opinion, this was defiantly the saddest movie we have watched. I was surprised how the Jews were blamed for the death of Jesus, and how they were portrayed as such evil people. I wanted to know why there wasn't one person who rebelled, or a group of Jewish people who refused to stand by the the injustices made my the German population. I remember watching one segment in this movie when the Jewish children show the camera man their numbered tattoos as a form of identity. How could the Jewish people stand to be treated like this?
I thought this movie was kind of scary. The fact that this group of people was(and still is to an extent)discriminated against based on an event that occured that long ago is ridiculous. In response to Christine's statement, as much as we would love to think that we would stand up for our rights regardless of the scenario, I feel as though they didn't have much of a choice. Germany as a whole believed that they were inferior and speaking out against the entire German population's view would result most likely in punishment or death. To have this thought looming over the heads of these Jewish people sends them into a cycle. They can't stand up because they can't unite and they can't unite because they are afraid and they are afraid because they can't stand up for themselves.
I completely agree with Christine. It was a really sad movie and I knew that the jews were blamed for the death of Jesus but I was also surprised that not a single one rebelled or got a group together and did so. It was just shocking to see how much blame was bestowed upon the jews. The propaganda was also disturbing, and the actions they had jews portraying in the photos.
I agree with Christine, it was so shocking that the Jews were blamed for Jesus' death and everything that was bad or evil was connected to Jews. I don't understand how this was even thought of, was it just ramdomly decided that Jews were evil and they were the reason Jesus died? It was a very sad move and very shocking that people were really that cruel.
After watching this film, I learned a lot of new material that had never been covered in any other class or program I have seen before. Part of the reason for that, I believe, is just because the material is so provocative and controversial because it has to do with religion. I agree with Celina about how shocking and disturbing the images from the propaganda were. Most of it I couldn't believe.
I agree with Christine that it is hard to understand why a group of Jewish people, or even one person wouldn't rebel against the Germans. However, I also believe that it is hard to understand how the Germans could possibly become that powerful that the Jewish people couldn't even decide to stand up for themselves. It is scary that the Germans were able to blame and demoralize the Jewish community so greatly. I also agree with Mike's cycle - the Jewish people were afraid because they were not able to stand up for themselves.
Reliqion being a conterversial topic that results in dispute between people. The saddest thing to see from mankind is when people use religion to cover up their sins. Meaning people kill for God. So if you are to kill for god the best thing you should be is to not believe in a god that you think teaches you to become radical.
Obviously this is a very sad topic but I think it is very unfair that for jews went through so much because of them being blamed for the death of Jesus. This is very unfair because jews that were born many years after that were still discriminated against for an event they had nothing to do with and had no control over. I agree with Nick that it is suprising that the jews didn't stand up for themselves and try to protect themselves.
I learned from this film that the hatred against Jew’s has existed much longer from when the Holocaust occurred. I had no idea how long they have been discriminated against and for such unfair reason that happened thousands of years ago anyway. Comparing them to the devil shows how deep the hatred and unfair treatment went towards them. I agree with Christine about why they haven’t stood up for themselves, like the blacks did after “only” a few hundred years of discrimination, rather than a few thousand.
Befor watm, i had hing this film, i had known that there had been a time where Jews were not liked. But, I had no idea that this hatred had been so long and so violent. I also just could not beleive what I heard and saw as the Jews were pushed around and beat up on for really know reason. NO buddy deserves to be treated the way the Jews were treated.

I was surprised at the continuous blame placed on the Jews so many times throughout history, and it is shocking to think that it all stemmed from them being blamed for the death of Jesus. It is scary to imagine living as a Jew during the Holocaust, and feeling powerless and not being treated like a human being. I also agree with Dave that it is unfair how all Jews were treated poorly for something they had nothing to do with.
I learned a lot from this documentary. For example, I didn't realize that Jewish people have been blamed for Jesus' death throughout history and I didn't know that even Luther was against them. I agree with Christine that some of the saddest footage was when the children displayed their identification numbers on their forearms.
From watching this film, I learned that the hatred towards the Jews, has extended much longer than what I had previously thought. I was not aware that the roman Catholics were so harsh towards the Jews, and it is almost embarrassing, as following a similar religion to roman Catholics.

It did not seem logical for the Nazis to hold a grudge against the Jews for so long for something they had no control over. However, I was disapointed that the Jews did not make an effort to stand up for themselves or that other religons or nationalities didn't aid them earlier. This may've prevented this outbreak of mass killings from occuring. I disagree with Annie in that why the Nazis had a hatred for the Jews. They didn't randomly decide that they were evil, but they continued to hold a grudge against them for the killing of Jesus.
